What fun and strange images can you create to stand out in your mind to help you remember a specific kanji?
Unless you were born and raised in Japan and learned kanji in school by the ‘rote’ system (which means writing the same character over and over in grid notebooks to build muscle memory) where you learned by repeating something until you finally remember it!
You can learn to remember images by visualizing funny, silly, distinctive images that will stick in your mind that you can associate with a specific kanji!
Help You Visualize ' "Kanji"
By using colorful ‘AI’ generated images, rough sketches, or by painting a verbal image of a scene, staff can help you try and visualize an image to associate in you mind with a specific kanji. You can either use staff’s suggested images, or sketch a thought that best works for you to remember an image in your mind.
It’s like working to remember soneone’s name you just met. By making a funny association in your mind whenever you see them.
Why Learn Kanji?
You don’t have to learn kanji. It’s not easy! The average Japanese citizen has to learn a minimum of 2,136 core kanji. This is known as the ‘joyo’ kanji to achieve functional literacy in society.
But learning some basic kanji can be fun and rewarding! It’s fun to be able to recognize some basic messages that appear around you in Japan. It can be rewarding to feel less intimidated and happy that some of the mystery is being revealed to you!
